Day

The week of 30 January is a PURPLE WEEK for the lunch menu.

Remember - if we miss a day due to weather or some other unscheduled reason, the color of the daily schedule will simply continue.  For example, if we have a snow day on a Monday that is a blue day and we return on Tuesday, that Tuesday will become a blue day.  We will continue alternating colors after that.
Patriot High School Parent Night

Patriot High School will be hosting a Rising 9th Grade Parent Night on Thursday, 16 February  at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium.  All parents of current 8th grade students who plan to attend Patriot High School next year are encouraged to attend.

Parent Survey

Don’t miss the chance to tell PWCS what you think!

How do you rate your child’s school and the education programs in our county?  The Prince William County School Board wants to know. All parents or guardians of students enrolled in Prince William County Public Schools were mailed a survey in English or Spanish on January 13 to measure parent satisfaction and determine how well the School Division is meeting the instructional needs of students.

The Friday, 3 February deadline for returning the survey is approaching fast.  Don’t miss this opportunity.

Parents with children enrolled in more than one school, received a survey for each school.

Parents of PWCS students who did not receive a survey or misplaced the one that was mailed, can contact the Office of Program Evaluation at 703.791.7277 for a replacement.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable input.

How to Get Your Non-School, After Hours Event Scheduled
Hundreds of cultural, educational, religious, and civic groups use school facilities each year in compliance with the School Division’s policy and Community Use of School Facilities Manual.

Representatives of outside groups, excluding recreational and sports leagues, can reserve space through the School Division Office of Risk Management and Security Services. To reserve a room in a school for an event, organizers can go to the Web site for community use of schools and facilities and follow the detailed instructions for registering. The Risk Management Web site includes a fee schedule and a link to “Frequently Asked Questions.” Use by outside groups does require adequate insurance and registrations can take a while to process; so groups should plan ahead.

For recreational and athletic use of school facilities, event organizers should contact the Prince William County Park Authority.

The Office of Risk Management and Security Services has prepared a document of “Frequently Asked Community Use Questions with Answers,” or FAQ. The FAQ addresses questions such as what type of activities are allowed, how long it takes a request to be processed and approved, and what fees are charged.

Forget Your Password for Parent Portal?

If parents and students attempt to login to Parent Portal and cannot remember their password, they can click on "Forgot your Password?" at the bottom of the login screen and fill in the requested information.  The system will email parents/students a temporary password which can be used to access the system.  Once they have logged in, they can go to "Settings" and change their password to something they will remember.

Also note that the Parent Portal passwords for students and parents must be changed via the Parent Portal and not in SchoolFusion.  When a parent or student changes his/her password in Parent Portal, it will be immediately available in SchoolFusion.

This changed item plus other Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)s can be found here

Concussion Education Sessions
All student athletes and their parents or guardians will be required to attend a concussion education session provided by their respective middle and high schools. Attendance at one of these sessions is required before a student will be allowed to try out for any sport, including dance and cheerleadingAs there are sufficient differences in the way concussion will be handled at the middle school and high school levels, a parent having children in both middle and high schools, will need to attend both presentations. Participation in the concussion education session is mandated by state law (Virginia Code 22.1-271.5). A concussion is a brain injury that is characterized by an onset of impairment of cognitive and/or physical functioning, and is caused by a blow to the head, face, or neck, or to the body that causes a sudden jarring of the head (e.g., a helmet to the head, being knocked to the ground). A concussion can occur with or without loss of consciousness.

Prince William County Public Schools supports the need to ensure that its staff, students, and the community are aware of the seriousness of brain injuries and concussions and how they can affect the student’s abilities in the educational setting. In April 2011, the Prince William County School Board adopted a concussion policy that meets the Virginia Code. The law requires parents and students to sign a form attesting that they received training prior to any level of student participation in athletics.
