Virginia law requires all students entering sixth-grade (and all students new to Prince William County Schools entering grades seven and eight) be vaccinated with the tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster immunization prior to entry into school.

In compliance with this state requirement, students who do not meet the requirement by the first day of school in September will be excluded from school.

Help with Selecting Reading Books for Your Child
The Virginia Department of Education is adding a new resource to encourage independent reading among our youth and thereby improve academic achievement for all students. The research is clear! Students who read have higher achievement in all subjects.

To help you and your child in choosing books that can promote reading growth, this year your child’s 2009 English SOL score will include a Lexile Level. The Lexile Level is based on your student’s SOL score on the English portion of the SOL and approximates his/her reading level. This means that your child should be able to read and understand books in a Lexile range of approximately 100 points below to 50 points above the designated score.

Click to see the entire letter in English or en espanol.

Safety Concern - Backpacks and Bags
We would like to remind students of an important safety concern - the carrying of string backpacks, tote bags, messenger bags and the like. These bulky items contribute to an unsafe environment in the hallway when someone is bumped and in the classroom where someone can trip over them. We ask that you comply with this safety measure by keeping these items in your locker, and if you are seen with one, you will be asked to promptly stow it in your locker.
