Welcome to Chorus

 

      Julie Phelan is currently in her 16th year as choral director at Marsteller Middle School where she conducts the 8th Grade Women’s Choir, the 8th Grade Treble Choir, the 7th Grade Advanced Women’s Choir, the 7th Grade Treble Choir and co-directs the 6th Grade Choirs with her partner, Philip Keirstead. Prior to her position in Prince William County, she taught in Fairfax County for five years.

     Born and raised in the Midwest, Ms. Phelan attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa where she double majored earning a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music Therapy. She also holds a Bachelor of Biblical Theology with a special emphasis in music in the worship setting.

   Ms. Phelan is an active member of MENC, VMEA, ACDA, VCDA, and NFMC. She is a frequent adjudicator for various high school and middle school auditions and Assessments throughout northern Virginia as well as a guest conductor. Her choirs consistently achieve Superior ratings at Assessment, 1st Place in choral competition and regularly perform throughout the county and state with recent performances at the Virginia Music Educator’s Conference, George Mason University Men’s Basketball game and The White House, where they had the distinct honor of meeting and singing for President Obama and the First Lady.
