Welcome To 6th Grade Math!

Hello and welcome to 6th Grade Math with Mrs. McClear (Ms. Hogan)!  I am so thrilled you are here!  We will be learning a lot this year for sure ABOUT each other and FROM each other.  I will be here for you.  I promise.

About 6th Grade Math

Sixth-grade math provides a transition from whole number arithmetic to foundations of algebra. You will focus on operations involving rational numbers. You will use ratios to compare data sets; recognize decimals, fractions, and percents as ratios; solve single-step and multi-step problems, using positive rational numbers; and gain a foundation in the understanding of and operations with integers.  Geometry instruction will involve perimeter, area, and coordinate plane graphing. Graphical representations of data and concepts regarding measures of center will continue. One variable linear equations and inequalities will be solved. Representing proportional relationships using two variables will be a precursor to the development of the concept of linear functions. The use of appropriate technology and the interpretation of the results from applying technology tools will be an integral part of learning and assessment.
